What Are Digital Wallets, and How Do They Work?

Your passport to Web3: how wallets store keys, sign transactions, and keep assets safe.

Sleek home office setup with multiple monitors, keyboard, smartphone, and stylish decor.

Keys, not coins

A wallet doesn't hold your tokens — the blockchain does. What the wallet holds are your keys: a public address you can share freely, and a private key (or seed phrase) that proves ownership and signs every action you take.

Whoever holds the private key controls the funds. That is the entire security model, and it is why seed phrases deserve a safe, offline home.

Hot wallets vs. cold wallets

Hot wallets live on your phone or browser and are perfect for daily use and launch participation. Cold wallets keep keys on dedicated hardware, disconnected from the internet — the right vault for treasuries and long-term holdings. Most serious users keep both.
